Derivative Function

You may find it useful to print out the guided notes to fill in while watching the video.

In this section we will look at how we can appoximate the entire derivative function. We will move beyond approximating at a point and determine general characateristics of the derivative to help us better understand how to use it.

Let's look at how to analyze an original function by looking at the characteristics of the graph and learn how those apply to the derivative.

The relationships of the original function and first derivative is very important for the analytical work we will do. Let's look at how we can use what we have learned about graphical analysis to be able to draw a derivative graph from an original graph.

At the end of this section you should be able to answer the following questions:

  1. What are the graphical properties of an original function we look at to make determinations about the derivative function?
  2. How can we use the graph of the derivative to get infromation about the original function?
  3. If we have a graph of the original function and the derivative, how can we determine which is which?
